WHO AM I?

Hi, I’m Katri! My interest in utilizing recycled materials started from years of experience and my personal values. I grew up in a family where craftsmanship and creativity were highly valued. My mother used to repair old clothes instead of buying new ones, and my father created the most wonderful "contraptions," with only imagination as the limit. So, I was raised in an environment that encouraged creativity from an early age, and I saw how beautiful and practical new materials could be made from various resources.

As an adult, I began to notice the rapidly growing consumer culture around me and the associated textile waste. I realized the significant environmental impact that the clothing and textile industry actually has. Over the years, my own values strengthened, and preserving materials in circulation for as long as possible took on an entirely new meaning.

Each of my creations tells its own story, and for this reason, every finished product carries the history of its previous life.

Amidst all the efforts to curb consumption and navigate the jungle of ethical choices, a strong vision of the beauty of clothing, the joy of colors, and the fun of dressing remained. Sewing clothes has always been a beloved hobby for me, and it gained new meaning when I began to think about how to combine my thoughts on dressing without burdening the environment. At that point, I slowly began incorporating recycled materials into my work. Reclaiming and transforming materials into new forms evolved into Upcycling sewing.

Upcycling sewing combines my love for craftsmanship with my passion for creating beautiful, practical, and sustainable products from lovely materials. The goal is for the material to continue its cycle for as long as possible. My work is a way of creating something unique and beautiful from the old and used. Each piece tells its own story and carries the history of its previous life. This approach not only reduces waste but also sparks thoughts on all the ways we can create something new and valuable from the old and worn. Every project is an opportunity to learn, invent creative solutions, and promote a more sustainable lifestyle.

Since I have always believed that creativity is a treasure, I want to offer the joy of working together through courses in various locations, as well as in my workspace once it is ready here in Ii.

Art By Mummi operates in an old 19th-century house, offering an inspiring and peaceful environment for creativity. The house, with its walls that tell stories from past centuries, provides a unique atmosphere for all stages of creation. The rustic aesthetic of the house and its yard, the rooms filled with natural light, and the time-worn details create an ambiance where every idea can grow and flourish. This is a place where new things can be created!

For me, Upcycling sewing is not just a skill—it's my way of contributing to making the world a slightly better place through this business. I believe that every fabric scrap or leftover material deserves a new life, which is why my products are developed and crafted carefully from recycled materials. This way, the materials are given a second life as a beautiful, new product.

Saving natural resources and reducing waste are the core goals of my business. As much as possible, I strive to use only recycled materials, allowing me to offer sustainable and eco-friendly products to each of my customers.

I see Upcycling thinking as an opportunity to create something new and inspiring. Creativity is at the heart of my work, and I am constantly developing my skills and discovering new ways to repurpose used materials. This ensures that the creation of beautiful and practical products will continue into the future.
